Don’t you hate it when a recipe you’re making calls for Italian seasoning, only to find that you’re all out! You don’t need to run to the store for this one ingredient. Make some homemade Italian seasoning!

Why make it homemade?

Check out the ingredients on the spice mix packets from the grocery store. They have ingredients like: corn or potato starch, maltodextrin, potassium magnesium chloride, silicon dioxide, and sugar.

Certainly none of those nasty ingredients in this recipe! It’s free from artificial ingredients & preservatives, sugar-free, and gluten free.

Not only is homemade healthier, but it’s also cheaper. Little jars of pre-made seasoning blends aren’t cheap. Like a few dollars each. You could spend tons of money buying all the different spice blends at the grocery store. So why not try making some of your own? You can make many homemade spice blends for a few cents with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.

Plus it’s less wasteful to make your spice mixes homemade since there are no single-use packets or containers to toss in the trash.

How to make Homemade Italian Seasoning Mix

It’s really very simple. No special ingredients to purchase for this recipe! Gather some basic spices from your pantry:

  • 2 tbsp dried basil
  • 2 tbsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp. dried rosemary
  • 1 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Mix them together. Then store the mix in an air tight container.

You can also blend & crush them in a food processor, spice grinder, or with a mortar and pestle to more evenly combine the spices. If you don’t grind up the spices, make sure to mix well before using to combine the spices.
